The 2021 Mỹ Việt Story Slam Open Call kicks off on Friday, January 8 for Vietnamese Boat People Podcast’s 2nd annual storytelling virtual event.
This year’s theme is ‘2020: A Year Unlike Any Other’. Individuals 18 and older, are invited to submit personal stories of their Vietnamese American perspective on how the events of 2020 have impacted them as Asian Americans, using various mediums including, but not limited to, spoken word, poetry, music, visual art, documentary, animation and more.
Vietnamese Boat People Podcast selected for PRX and Google Podcasts Creator Program
PRX and Google announced on Sept 30, 2020 the audio creators who will participate in the 2020–2021 Google Podcasts creator program, a podcast accelerator and training program for a global community. Vietnamese Boat People is among the 20 podcasts chosen from a global application process that reviewed close to 2,800 entries.

Since the onset of the COVID-19 crisis, many Asian-Americans have experienced inflamed racism and xenophobia. With the 45th anniversary of the Fall of Saigon on April 30th and Asian-American Pacific-Islander Heritage Month approaching in May, it is even more vital to give this community a voice.
