FEATURED COLLECTIONS

Featured Collections are special projects that have been executed with the support of the Vietnamese Boat People programs. If you have an existing oral history collection that you would like to feature on the Journey Map or if you would like our support in helping you capture stories for a project or initiative in your local community, please contact us to learn more.

Podcast

Vietnamese Boat People (VBP) podcast is an award-winning show that reaches a global audience in over 20 countries. Our production team curates stories of hope, survival and resilience about lived experiences and migration journeys from the Vietnamese diaspora community. These are true stories of tragedies and triumphs across multiple generations. The show is available on all major podcast platforms like Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Audible, Google Play, and more.  To learn more, visit our Podcast page.

Central Valley

This collection was created by Alexa Tran, a senior in high school, who received the 2023 Girl Scout USA Gold Award Scholarship for this project. Alexa addressed the lack of cultural preservation of stories from Vietnamese community in her hometown, since they are not being taught in American schools or passed down by immigrant parents. She felt the stories about the Vietnamese Boat People were slowly fading away for her generation.  She collected these stories with guidance and resources from Vietnamese Boat People.

Story Slam

This collection features curated stories from Vietnamese Boat People's annual Mỹ Việt Story Slam, an engaging live event that provides a platform and an opportunity for the community to share their perspective and personal stories on a virtual stage. A small group of Storytellers are chosen each year from a nation-wide open call for submissions. The stories are shared through a variety of creative mediums and interpretations. To learn more visit our Story Slam program page.

Preserve Your Legacy
for Future Generations

VBP Journeys No Background (1).png

For too long, the Vietnamese diaspora has been silenced and misrepresented by outsiders. By sharing your personal story in your own voice, you have the power to reclaim our narrative and shape a more accurate depiction of our complex journeys. By coming together as a collective, we can educate, dismantle misconceptions and stereotypes, foster connections, and drive greater awareness and understanding of our culture, values and experiences.

Our family histories and stories are precious, and over time, they can be forgotten. You can create a lasting legacy for your family and generations to come, by contributing. Don't let your story be lost to time - share it today and become a part of our collective history.

If you have questions or ideas for improving the Journeys map please email us at stories@vietnameseboatpeople.org.

We look forward to hearing from you!
