From Loss to Hope

In April,1975, six siblings aged four (Viet) to twenty (Ho-Thanh) left Viet Nam among 120,000 refugees. We arrived June 1 at Fort Indiantown Gap, sharing one room with three bunk beds. We waited two months for a sponsor who would keep us together. Mr. & Mrs. William Slike, their family, and Covenant United Methodist Church welcomed us all to Lebanon on August 23. They taught us English, life, and confidence. Today we are grown, grateful, and connected, the Slikes having celebrated Viet’s medical career, loved each of us for our successful endeavors, and honored our journey from loss to hope.
