Blazing a Trail

In 1975, my family made the painful decision to flee Vietnam, leaving behind our home, history, everything we had ever known. My father, an ARVN officer, knew that staying meant death or imprisonment. So, grandfather, parents, six siblings and I escaped, boarding a ship under the cover of night with nothing but hope. We endured five uncertain months in refugee camps. Then, sponsored by a church network led by Lancaster’s St. James, we arrived here. One year later, my father insisted that I stop working to pursue college. Through his sacrifice, I became the first Vietnamese woman to graduate from Millersville University.
